In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can inspire.
-Ralph W. Emerson
I grew up in Calgary, surrounded by Alberta’s vast prairies to the east and the vista of the majestic Rocky Mountains to the west. Working from my own photography, I create one of a kind, unique works that convey the passion I feel for my surroundings.
My primary mediums are oils, watercolour, and chalk pastel. I think of myself as a contemporary representational painter as I cover the artistic gamut of lightly representational landscapes to realistic portraits.
My work can be found in private and corporate collections throughout Canada and the United States. I have received numerous awards for my artwork, including first place at the prestigious Spruce Meadows Equestrian Center Red Ribbon Contest. Other awards include first place at the Calgary Stampede Art Show and two scholarships.
I am a graduate from the University of Calgary, successfully completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, with distinction. In addition to my post-secondary education, I have been honing my artistry at the Green Palette Arts (formerly known as the North West Art Studio) since 1994. Working in an environment surrounded by other artists has allowed me to share in their knowledge and learn from their critiques. Another facet of my growth as an artist came when I was hired by the Green Palette Arts to teach a youth art class. Being engulfed by the endless imagination and energy of children has had a huge influence on my work; I only wish I had started teaching sooner.
When not painting in my home studio, I can often be found indulging in two of my other passions: riding the foothills on my horse with a camera in hand.
